What is a Natural Witch?

"Witchcraft differs from magic in two particulars. First, it is above all, the peoples magic. The Witch did not pore over cabalistic screeds or ancient grimoires (magicians manuals), draw on the ground elaborate circles filled with Hebraic inscriptions, or chant the many names of gods and devils. Usually she could not read or write at all. She had her little charms and spells, her amulets and fetishes, her herbal cures and secret potions, but essentially her magic was performed on a small scale. She could cure your headache, but she did not raise spirit armies."

The Complete book of Magic and Witchcraft. Leonard R.N Ashley 1996. Robson Books.

When I think of a Natural Witch the above description in italics seems to fit the criteria quite appropriately. But the natural Witch of modern times would not be quite the same. Today we have professional people that practice medicine and herbalism. And usually there is a governing body that defines who can practice that kind of medicine lawfully. Sure there are Witches out there that practice herbalism and probably are quite good at it but the role of the Modern Natural Witch would be that of magic, divination and spiritual evolvement.

Natural Witch is a term I have toyed with for quite some time and have always liked it. It may mean something entirely different to different people.

A Natural Witch can cause change in their life with a thought, focus and concentration. They may or may not need magical tools to achieve this. I am sure there are many people out there who are "Natural Witches" they just don't know it. They live their lives in a way that seems to bring out positive change but they are not aware of what they do to achieve it. When I say this I mean that the person may not have a spiritual bone in their body, but they always seem to achieve what they set out to do. This is a natural Witch or natural Magician.

The self recognised Natural Witch is aware of their environmental surroundings and feels the change of the seasons and  perhaps even celebrates them. A Natural Witch has always had fascination with the cycles of the Moon and arranges her/his activities around them. They feel the world and the subtle changes of nature and human collective unconscious. A Natural Witch may intuitively know what and how to cast a spell. S/he has not necessarily read lots of books or spent a fortune on Ritual Tools to do it. A Natural Witch may be person of any religion or "none" who practices folk magic. Although any common folk can use folk magic, the Witch makes magic a daily practice/study and way of life. A Natural Witch does not follow a set of rules or laws defined by a self-righteous, self appointed high priest/ess

My intention of this site is not to create a new tradition with me as head Witch Guy. I simply believe that the degree system and hierarchy are not what magic is all about. We shouldn't get caught up in protocol and infighting to create magic that benefits our lives. Please take a look around this Book of Magic you may find it refreshing.
