Divination is commonly known as "Seeing the Future" or "Fortune Telling". But Divination is a little more than telling someone how many children they are going to have or how handsome their future husband will be. Firstly I will state that I do not consider myself psychic but I have been reading the Tarot for a while now and I know it works for me and the people I read for. There are tonnes of people out there who claim to be psychic, and also there are lots of people out there making big bucks from Psychic lines etc. I am sure there are psychic people but it not likely to the one who goes around telling friends and strangers they are a clairvoyant or who put ads in the local rag and work on Psychic lines.

Personally I never ever take a reading as Gospel. When I do a Tarot spread it involves past, present and future based on the current circumstances at the time. The reading could be null and void if I take the readings advice and choose a different course of action. Hence what I am saying is that I believe that any divination technique should only be used as a guide. Not taken as a future set in concrete.

With regard to magic and witchcraft divination techniques are invaluable. You should always do a reading before any spell or ritual to ensure that it is the best course of action for you at the time.

Here's a list and short description of Divination Tools and Techniques:

The Tarot: Is an ancient divination system of unknown origin each card has a specific meaning but intuition should be employed to read the cards correctly. There are several different card spreads for the Tarot each card position relates to an area of the questioners life. The Celtic Cross is a common spread.

The Runes: Is the ancient Nordic Alphabet each symbol has a specific meaning. You usually draw three runes at a time. For past, present and future.

I Ching: The I Ching is a Chinese oracle the easiest way is using three coins to come up with Triagrams each Triagram has a meaning.

Scrying: Staring into an object to see visions of the future. Usually people scry with a reflective object such as a mirror or glass sometimes water.

Casting Bones: I have the African bones kit which is kind of an oracle. But traditionally it took years to read the bones correctly. Scrying and Intuition is the real key to the bones.

Playing Card reading: Tarot cards are in fact the forerunners to the playing cards and are used in a very similar way.

Palmistry: Reading the lines on peoples palms to divine their future.

Necromancy: Contacting the dead to foretell the future. When a spirit is contacted the entity is asked questions about the questioners future. E.g. Séance, Ouija Board.

Tea Leaf Reading: The interpretation of symbols made by tea leaves in a cup after the questioner has consumed a cup of tea. People also read the Remains of Turkish Coffee in the same way.
