I keeep a bit of an eye out on paranormal news sites from Australia and America, and there seems to be so much more variety in the weirdness reported in America. Everything from Giant hell hounds, Skinwalkers, Mothmen, Black eyed Kids to fanged humanoids and cupachabras, you name it its out there. As well as the usual Bigfoot, UFOs and Ghosts.
In Australia we mainly get reports of Hairy Men (Yowies), thylacines, big cats, ghosts and UFOs. Ok, a bit more than that, but you get what I mean.
So why so much more weirdness variety reported in America?
Is it
a) Australians are more reluctant to report more bizarre encounters
b) They just dont happen here
c) Americans are more open to weird things or
d) Americans are more open to fantasy than Aussies

Or is it something else entirely.

I would go with a,c and d. Aussies tend to be more concerned with practical reality I think that may have somehting to do with it?

Serious It is simple fact of size of population 21 million in Australia about 350 million in the US

hello Murray

Another thing America was established nearly 2 hundred years that before Australia as a country. And 200 years has allowed more cultural supersitions to take hold and take root.

For example the Salem witch trials in America. Australia by time it was colonised those type of supersttions were seen as thing of the past.

And the fact Halloween has never reallyever taken hold into the public imagination in Australia. America has had at least over 100 years of celebrations stilutating the imagination of the public.

Paranormal interest has really picked up in the last few years. Thanks to shows like Ghost Hunters and Movies like Paranormal Activity etc. If I look back only five or so years ago when I started this website there were only a handful of investigation groups in the whole country now they seem to be popping up everywhere. Australia has a lot of hidden secrets. Esp with Aboriginal folklore as well it just may take time for things to become better known?
