spiral sky phenomena

At www.ufoinfo.com/sightings/australia there are several separate reports of a spiral sky phenomena on the night of June 5th 2010. One was from Canberra, one from Wamboin, one from Batemans Bay. There may be more as I only checked local reports. Witnesses report a bright light in the centre with a vortex or whirlpool of spiralling light.
This sounds similar to the Norway Spiral from 2009. The theories for that were everything from aliens, to weather, to a sign from God. The most accepted and official line was that it was a failed russian missile test. Sorry but I dont buy it.
So what happened over Canberra/Batemans bay on the night of June 5th 2010?
And has anyone witnessed this type of phenomena anywhere else in the country?

Id love to hear some explanations as well as I dont think I have a good one.

Have you had any thoughts on the norway spiral, or on the south coast one Murry? Or anyone for that matter?

To be honest I dont any theories, perhaps an explanation will present itself in the future.

Wasn't it reported on the news as booster rocket malfunctioned?

Yes, it was reported on the news as a rocket malfunction. When looking at a photo that looks possible, but after seeing footage of the phenomena I just dont buy it as an explanation. A similar sighting from Canberra and the south coast add further questions.
